Endometriosis
I always knew my periods were different than my friends. They would come to school, play, swim, and do the usual things that they always did. I would dread the day the debilitating cramps and pounding headaches would start. My flow was often so heavy that I could not get through a single half hour without rushing to the restroom. I used to miss school frequently, unable to move from pain. The San Francisco fertility clinic told my parents that I had endometriosis. They recommended I start oral contraceptives to lessen the severity of my condition. I can’t miss school every time my period comes!
